Expansion 5.22
EXPANSIÓN 5:22
Sound art: electroacoustic music, whale song and the artist's breathing
Total duration: 5'22"
Movements: 1
Year: 2002
EXPANSION 5:22 premiered in the Edurne art Gallery in Madrid (C/Justiniano), Spain, in 2003. There it was played for a month, and was distributed as part of the CD IN THE ROOM. This CD was part, in turn, of the Violeta Andreu solo exhibition INHABITED SPACES.
EXPANSION 5:22 is conceived from recordings of street sounds, whale songs, and breathing sounds.
Andreu starts from the identification of the body as home and the maternal womb as the first dwelling. Through this idea of life in a maternal aquatic environment, she uses the songs of whales, her breathing, and sounds from the world outside this space. Everything merges and blurs within the habitability of this primordial home.
